Cloud computing ready for the main stage

There are plenty of fads that have come and gone over the years. We all remember parachute pants, hacky sacks and pogs right? The same thing happens in the IT world as things like the Palm Pilot and Y2K hysteria were on every IT professionals' mind but were later forgotten.

There are a few technologies currently on the market that organizations have questioned whether they are simply a fad. One of them is the use of cloud computing and digital services and the idea that it is a temporary interest to businesses is way off.

In a guest column for the Miami Herald, Jonathan Lieberman—the CEO and co-founder of cloud IT service provider itopia—spoke about the reasons why many organizations should be adopting the cloud, if they haven't already.

"The cloud isn't a passing technological fad that will fizzle out over the coming years, but rather a permanent fixture of the modern world," Lieberman wrote. "From a purely business strategy perspective, the question isn't whether one should move all their data to the cloud, but when."

He went on to say that just as tech systems like mobile phones and email have become business staples, so too will cloud-based data solutions. It is not a matter of if you should adopt the cloud but when and how many resources will be wasted trying to maintain outdated systems.

With the help of an IT solution provider that offers cloud consulting services, any organization can get on the cloud bandwagon and make the most of it.
