Cloud technology changing IT infrastructure

The use of cloud technology is changing the way businesses handle their operations. From employee collaboration to improved communication to disaster recovery, cloud platform solutions are becoming the norm in a number of different industries.

A recent Forbes article highlighted the ways that cloud computing is changing the current state of business operations. Even though the technology is not entirely new, the way it has evolved is changing not only simple processes like sharing a document but also the entire IT infrastructure.

"Cloud computing has unburdened businesses from the traditional IT business model, giving them more options when it comes to their IT infrastructure," the article read. "In the past, the business/IT model was very straightforward: Businesses hired IT professionals to run their computer hardware and software. The IT staff had to forecast business needs as far out as 5 or 10 years, and make purchases accordingly."

The article went on to say that this approach is causing a number of problems for businesses. For example, a faulty forecast can lead to wasteful spending. If the projected amount of server space needed for storage in a five or ten year window is wrong because of unforeseen growth, it can be difficult and costly to upgrade. A cloud storage option is more cost effective and easier to scale.

There are a number of different ways that companies are taking advantage of cloud solutions and the help of an IT consulting firm that specializes in cloud technology can ensure any company is able to optimize its systems.
