Could it be time to update telecommunication terminology?

Over the last few years, many businesses have kept up with the latest technology needed to communicate. You would be hard pressed to find a company that does not use email or some kind of instant messaging. This has lead into the current evolution of the telecommunication industry, which combines VoIP phone systems and video conferencing into one solution known as unified communication (UC).

However, the thing about evolution is that it doesn't stop. A recent article from Unified Communications Strategies by Roberta Fox mentioned that perhaps it's time to update the terminology and change UC to something that makes more sense like optimized converged communications.

The update may be needed because there are a number of new options hitting the market and not all of them are needed for every business. She went on to say that everything gets taken to a new level when the cloud gets involved. The benefits of a virtual system make it too enticing to turn away from.

"Technology industry and client business leaders keep telling us they want to move to 'The Cloud' to simplify things related to IT, and believe they will be able to reduce their overall IT costs by doing this. This applies to VoIP, UC and contact center technologies," the article reads.

Companies that are looking to embrace the next evolution in business communication would be wise to partner with an IT consulting firm that specializes in the latest innovations if they want to obtain the best solutions and implement them successfully.
