Mobile devices top kids holiday wish lists

Any kid that fully understands how the holiday season works already has their wish list prepared and is doing everything they can to drop hints of what they desire. Many parents hit the stores on Black Friday or are ordering now as part of Cyber Monday to ensure they procure the must-have gizmos ahead of the mad rush.

The tastes of children is growing. While the past saw Tickle Me Elmo and Furbies as the hot holiday item, this year sees electronics as the must-have gift and Apple is dominating the top spots.

According to a survey from Nielsen, Apple mobile devices are dominating this year’s lists. In the bracket of kids aged six to 12, idevices take up four of the top five spots. Forty-eight percent of respondents are asking for the iPad this holiday season. The new Nintendo video gaming console the Wii U takes the second spot, followed by the iPod Touch, iPad Mini and iPhone.

In the older bracket of kids aged 13-plus, the iPad again is on the top of the list. Computers, tablets other than the iPad and the iPhone also make appearances in the top of most desired devices list.

While the the holiday wish lists of children may not seem to be of much importance to the business world, it can be assumed that adults have similar desires. Even though the Nintendo Wii U is unlikely to make an appearance in offices around the country, mobile devices are.

Bring-your-own-device policies are growing and the market is saturated with potential options. IT departments need to be ready to embrace new devices and ensure they are deployed properly.
