SMBs reap benefits of cloud technology

The use of cloud technology is one of the major topics of discussion in boardrooms across the country with no signs of slowing down. According to a recent Global Cloud Computing Market Forecast, the annual growth rate of cloud technology is 30 percent, reaching $270 billion in 2020.

It is not just the large enterprises that are taking advantage of this technology. Many small and mid sized business (SMBs) are not only adopting the technology by exceeding expectations by doing so.

In a recent article from The Guardian, Chris Harding explored the reasons why some SMBs have not fallen in line and get in the cloud. His main reasoning is that the technology has planted itself into every aspect of business operations. Communication, storage, applications and data access can all be done without being tied to a computer.

Managing a cloud system can be a monumental task, especially for small companies that may lack the internal IT talent to handle it. Because of this, Harding suggests outsourcing cloud services to an IT consulting firm.

“For a small businesses, outsourcing IT to the cloud lowers the need for specialist skills and frees managers to concentrate on the core business,” wrote Harding. “It may cost slightly more than in-house IT, but this is often outweighed, as it can sometimes enable a small company to take a “big company” approach to problems by increasing efficiency.”

In the end, the use of an IT consulting practice can help companies of any size implement and manage a cloud solution and everything that goes along with it.
